Aspyr’s Shrek 2 Remastered launches November 10 on Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Windows PC and Xbox Series X, according to Polygon. The game was formally revealed with a trailer that Polygon says copies the cinematic style of Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto 6 marketing.
The biggest change is online co-op. The original game let up to four players play together locally, and the remaster lets the same number team up over the internet. Polygon reports that the update also brings 4K resolution, better textures, a reworked user interface and upgraded cutscenes. It adds two new modes: a Photo Mode and a Cheat Mode that lets players change how the game works.
Luxoflux originally developed Shrek 2 and Activision published it. The action-adventure platformer is based on DreamWorks Animation’s 2004 film. Players control Shrek, Fiona, Donkey and other characters as they fight enemies and take on platforming challenges. Levels include Shrek’s swamp, Fiona’s castle and the kingdom of Far Far Away, and they mix scenes from the movie with sequences made for the game.
Polygon notes that the remaster first showed up last month in an achievement leak. An early Xbox Store listing then gave details of its upgrades before the official announcement. The release also comes ahead of Shrek 5, which Polygon says is expected in 2027.
