Control Resonant has sold more than 1 million copies about three weeks after launch. Remedy Entertainment announced the milestone on October 15 and said the game is the fastest seller in the Finnish studio’s 31-year history, as reported by Eurogamer.
Remedy did not say how sales split between digital and physical copies, and it did not name the platform that sold the most, according to Eurogamer. The game came out in September, a month Eurogamer described as unusually crowded with releases.
Remedy CEO Jean-Charles Gaudechon, who took over the company in February, described the launch as a “very strong start.” He added: “Control Resonant is Remedy’s first self-published release of this scale, launched into one of the most competitive windows in years alongside the industry’s biggest names.” Gaudechon also said the game was reaching longtime fans and also drawing many players who are new to the series. He said Remedy plans to keep investing in Control and Alan Wake, its two established franchises, and that more is coming from both.
According to Eurogamer, some fans had worried about the studio’s direction under Gaudechon, who previously ran a sports betting platform, and he has recently had to reassure them.
Eurogamer also compared the game with Remedy’s earlier releases. Alan Wake 2 held the studio’s previous record and needed about two months to pass 1 million copies in 2023. There are no directly comparable figures for the original Control, but it had sold 2 million copies by the end of 2020, 15 months after it launched. Eurogamer’s review gave Control Resonant three stars, a lower score than it gave either of those games.
Eurogamer listed several other recent releases that have also sold more than 1 million copies: The Blood of Dawnwalker, Onimusha: Way of the Sword, Star Wars Zero Company and Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve.
