Kitebound casts you as Wren, a paper kite folded to life by a mountain postmistress, tasked with carrying letters between villages scattered across the Highfold range. Movement is all about wind: catch thermals to climb, fold your wings to dive, and ride gusts through valleys that open up as the seasons change.
There is no combat and no fail state beyond a gentle drift back to the last perch. Instead, challenge comes from optional routes, tricky deliveries against the wind, and a collection of lost letters whose stories link the villages together.
The adventure takes around ten hours to finish, with plenty of postcards and side deliveries for completionists.
Kitebound is a near-flawless platformer whose wind-riding movement is a pleasure from the first minute to the last. Without combat or punishment, it finds challenge in craft and curiosity, and its letters tell a small, lovely story about a mountain community. Anyone can play it, and everyone should.
Announced at Autumn Showfloor, the pledge sets a shared accessibility baseline for every new release from studios including Saltmarsh Games, Little Paper Kite, and Quiet Static.
The Lamplighter’s Coast adds a seaside region below the Highfold range, 14 new letters, and a kite tail built for crosswinds. It is free for everyone who owns the game.
Small Hours confirmed its road-trip drama for early 2027, Little Paper Kite finally showed its next game in motion, and Sunken Crown revealed a new district.
