Skyhook Settles on a Q3 2027 Window and Opens Sign-Ups for a Winter Closed Alpha

Cloudwright’s airship sandbox will hold a cross-platform closed alpha in December, focused on six-player crews and the new hull stress system.

Skyhook finally has a narrower target. Cloudwright and publisher Halcyon Six announced at Autumn Showfloor 2026 that the airship sandbox will launch in the third quarter of 2027 on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. Until now, the game had carried only a 2027 label.

The more immediate news is a closed alpha scheduled for December. Sign-ups opened on Halcyon Six’s website during the show, and Cloudwright says invitations will be sent in waves, with priority given to players who sign up as a group of three to six so the studio can test full crews. The alpha will run on all four platforms with cross-play enabled from the start.

The stage demo focused on a system Cloudwright calls hull stress. Every plank, strut, and balloon mount now carries load, and the game visualizes that load as a heat map when you open the build menu. Bolt a heavy cannon deck to a thin keel and you will see the problem before you take off; ignore it and the ship may tear itself apart in a crosswind. The demo’s crew lost a stern section to exactly that and spent a tense minute patching it mid-flight.

Players kept building ships that flew beautifully and couldn’t survive a single storm. We didn’t want to stop people from doing that. We wanted them to know why it happened.

Cloudwright also confirmed that the alpha will include two of the game’s five sky biomes, the trading-post economy, and sky-pirate strongholds, but not the late-game storm front that the studio describes as the game’s endgame. Progress from the alpha will not carry over to the full release.
