An Xbox.com store page appears to have revealed a remaster of 2004’s Shrek 2: The Game before any announcement, GameSpot reports. The listing has since been taken down, and the game has not been officially announced.
GameSpot says the page described several upgrades: 4K resolution, better textures and an enhanced user interface. The remaster also adds a Photo Mode and a Cheat Mode. Like the original, it supports solo play or co-op for up to four players, either locally or online. Playable characters include Shrek, Fiona and Donkey, among others.
Activision published the original game on PS2, Xbox and GameCube. According to the listing as reported by GameSpot, Aspyr Media is releasing the remaster. Aspyr also handled the recent The Lord of the Rings re-releases.
The page did not include a release date or a price. GameSpot says the game is expected on PlayStation as well, but the only platform the listing confirmed is Xbox.
Around the same time, the official Shrek account on X posted a compilation of footage from Shrek video games with the caption “Only real gamers played Shrek.” GameSpot notes that many fans have linked the post to the remaster. The compilation includes the original Shrek 2 game alongside others such as Shrek Smash N’ Crash Racing and Shrek Super Party.
The franchise turned 25 this year, and the original film returned to theaters to mark the anniversary. Shrek 5 is scheduled for Summer 2027, according to GameSpot.
