Witcher 3 Remastered patch 5.01 rolls out on Switch 2 with resolution and sharpening changes

The update follows player complaints that the Switch 2 version looked blurry, especially in handheld mode. It also tones down the Remastered edition's brightness.

CD Projekt Red began rolling out its promised Switch 2 patch for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered today, October 19, Eurogamer reports. The main changes are to resolution and image sharpening.

According to Eurogamer, the patch, numbered 5.01, changes sharpening and resolution to “improve visual clarity and fidelity.” The changes respond to players who said the game looked blurry, particularly in handheld mode.

The update also changes the lighting to reduce some of the brightness introduced by the Remastered edition. Eurogamer notes that brightness has been one of the biggest complaints since the edition launched in late September, and that patches for other console versions made similar changes.

Other items in the patch notes published by Eurogamer include:

  • Visual adjustments to bloom, tone mapping, character lighting, ray tracing and path tracing, plus new graphics options for bloom, light shafts and depth of field
  • General performance optimizations and a fix for visual artifacts caused by dynamic resolution scaling in some configurations
  • A fix for HD Rumble only working in the left Joy-Con 2 while Geralt climbs ladders
  • A fix for an issue that could affect save data, with measures to repair saves that were already affected
  • A fix for a rare crash when moving between regions of the game
  • Combat and skill fixes, including dodges that responded late, stamina draining completely when sprinting and dodging at once, and damage reflection added to the Exploding Shield skill
  • Console players now get the fix for voiceover audio becoming much quieter after browsing the pause menu tabs
  • Ukrainian text localization is now available in all regions

The patch also brings back the policy consent screen because of backend issues, so players will have to confirm their preferences again. A fix for My Rewards and Twitch/Bilibili Drops not appearing in the Vizima chest may leave some players with duplicate items.

The Remastered update modernizes the 11-year-old role-playing game’s visuals, adds new animations and changes systems such as skills and enemy behavior. According to Eurogamer, it also lays the groundwork for Songs of the Past, a new expansion due next year.
