Battlefield Studios has put out a statement admitting that some of the new cosmetics in Battlefield 6 fell short of its standards, after players highlighted errors that led many to suspect generative AI. As reported by GameSpot, the statement does not say whether AI was used.
The most widely shared example is a McNeil skin with “SECUTY” printed on the shoulder where it should read “SECURITY.” According to GameSpot, the studio says a fix for that skin will arrive with the Season 5, Phase 2 patch in November.
The studio said it knows about the memes and criticism around the new items, and that releasing an item with a known visual error without addressing it quickly had been a mistake. “We recognize that letting a known visual error go live without quick acknowledgement creates confusion and erodes trust,” Battlefield Studios said. It added that it is changing how it communicates about known visual bugs and is looking into its internal workflows to find out how the problems made it into the game and to strengthen quality control.
Battlefield Studios also responded to criticism of the Midnight Mirage skin, which gives the character five pistols. The studio said the design was deliberate, a nod to action movies where soldiers always seem to have one more weapon strapped on somewhere. It acknowledged that the design could look like a mistake because it came out alongside other cosmetic problems.
GameSpot notes that players also pointed to assets they believed were AI-generated when Battlefield 6 launched in 2025, and that the studio never denied it. The outlet also reports that Activision has openly said it uses AI to create some assets, including for the upcoming Modern Warfare 4.
Separately, Battlefield 6 was recently added to Xbox Game Pass and is discounted to mark the start of Season 5, according to GameSpot.
