About the game

Hollowmere follows ranger Ada Kell into a protected wetland after a survey team stops reporting in. The marsh is quiet, the fog does not lift, and the boardwalks seem to lead somewhere different every time you retrace them.

Resource management is strict: lantern oil doubles as fuel for a flare gun, and every shot you fire makes noise that draws the things living under the water. A hand-drawn map fills in only as you explore, and safe rooms are ranger cabins with a single save ledger and a woodstove that slowly burns down.

Bracken & Bone’s debut leans on atmosphere and sound design over jump scares, with a campaign that runs around twelve hours.

Hollowmere review: fog, lanterns, and a long walk in circles

Sam Whitlock

Hollowmere’s marsh is one of the most unsettling places I have explored in a horror game, and its lantern-oil economy creates real dread. Too much of its twelve hours is spent retracing shifting boardwalks, though, and the story loses its grip just when it should tighten.
