Grey Harbor is reorganizing its publishing business into three labels, the company announced this morning. The change takes effect January 1 and affects every game the publisher currently has in development or on sale, including Hollowmere, Brickhold, and the upcoming Chrome Saints and Abyssal Choir.
- Undertow will handle horror and atmospheric games, starting with Hollowmere and Abyssal Choir.
- Bastion will cover multiplayer and co-op games with long-term live support, including Brickhold and Chrome Saints.
- Grey Harbor Editions will manage physical releases, ports, and the back catalog.
Each label gets its own head, marketing team, and community staff. Grey Harbor says the split is meant to give developers a smaller, more specialized team to work with, and to stop its marketing calendar from forcing very different games to compete for the same staff in the same month.
When a horror game and a co-op builder launch in the same week, they need completely different things from us. For too long they’ve been getting the same people and the same plan.
Marguerite Osei, chief executive of Grey Harbor, in a statement
Grey Harbor says the restructuring involves no layoffs. Eleven employees are moving between teams, and the company has six new positions open, mostly in community management for Bastion. Existing developer contracts are unchanged, and studios will keep the same producers they work with today.
Bracken & Bone, the studio behind Hollowmere, said in a short post that it had been consulted on the change and welcomed having “a team that only does what we do.” Redline Assembly and Forgeworks Collective have not commented. Grey Harbor did not say whether the reorganization will affect the still-unannounced December launch date for Chrome Saints.
