Analogue has announced the Mega Sg+ and Super Nt+, revised versions of its earlier Mega Sg and Super Nt consoles. Both play original Sega and Nintendo cartridges, according to Eurogamer. Pre-orders open October 19 on Analogue’s website, and the consoles are due to ship in December.
The original Super Nt came out in 2018, with the Mega Sg following a year later. Like those machines, the new models use hardware recreation instead of software emulation. Analogue’s announcement describes an in-house FPGA built from scratch and says the consoles output 1080p for 2D games, promising “Zero lag. Total accuracy.”
Eurogamer reports that the Mega Sg+ is 100 percent compatible with a library of more than 2,180 cartridges. That covers Sega Genesis, Mega Drive, Master System, Game Gear, Mycard Adapter and Mark III/SG1000 games. The Super Nt+ supports more than 2,200 Super Nintendo and Super Famicom games.
Both consoles have a redesigned look that Analogue calls “industrial.” They support wireless controllers over Bluetooth and 2.4GHz connections. Cartridges can now be hot-swapped, so players only need to quit the current game before switching, with no need to power down. A controller can also turn the consoles on and off. A USB-C power supply and cable come in the box.
Each console costs $219.99. The Mega Sg+ comes in Japan, EU and US variants, and the Super Nt+ comes in Classic, SF and Black.
