Ubisoft proposes closing Trials studio RedLynx and cuts 70 jobs at Ubisoft Singapore

The plan would affect up to 122 roles across Finland and Singapore as Ubisoft keeps cutting costs and moves toward its new Creative Houses structure.

Ubisoft has proposed closing RedLynx, the Finnish studio behind the Trials series, and has cut 70 positions at Ubisoft Singapore, according to a company statement reported by GamesIndustry.biz. Up to 52 roles in Finland would be lost if the closure goes ahead.

In its statement, Ubisoft said it had told staff about the RedLynx proposal, which remains “subject to the local change negotiation process.” The company said the Singapore reductions were made to bring the studio in line with its upcoming production needs. It added that Ubisoft Singapore “remains an important part of Ubisoft’s global production organization,” and said it would support affected employees through the process.

GamesIndustry.biz describes the cuts as the latest round in Ubisoft’s ongoing restructuring, which aims to sharply reduce costs and reorganize the company into what it calls a Creative Houses structure.

Ubisoft acquired RedLynx in 2011, after the success of Trials 2 and Trials HD. The studio went on to make several more Trials games before becoming a support studio within Ubisoft’s development organization. GamesIndustry.biz says it understands RedLynx is not currently assigned to a project and has no sustainable standalone titles. VGC also reported that the studio has no current project and has been deemed unsustainable.

Ubisoft Singapore was founded in 2008 as a support studio. According to GamesIndustry.biz, it went on to build the naval combat sections of the Assassin’s Creed series, which led to its work as lead developer on the pirate game Skull and Bones. That game went through a troubled development with multiple delays before it launched in 2024. The 70 lost jobs are roughly a fifth of the Singapore studio’s staff, according to the outlet.
