Disney and The Pokémon Company have announced that Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d & Pichu, a stop-motion series from Aardman Animations, will premiere on Disney XD in 2027 and stream exclusively on Disney Plus, Polygon reports. Polygon says the announcement came on Friday. No more specific release date was given.
Aardman, the studio behind Wallace & Gromit, Chicken Run and Shaun the Sheep, is making the show. It follows Sirfetch’d and Pichu on a quest across the Galar region from Pokémon Sword and Shield, where the pair set out to help and protect other Pokémon. According to the official synopsis, their missions rarely go to plan, and they run into rivals, allies and unusual Pokémon along the way. The partnership between Aardman and Pokémon was first announced in 2024, Polygon notes.
Phil Rynda, Pokémon’s director of original animation, said the stories are “all told from the perspective of Pokémon.” He added that Aardman has rendered Galar “in a way that makes you feel like you can smell the air, touch the tree bark.”
The new series is one piece of a wider deal bringing Pokémon to Disney’s streaming service. Pokémon the Series: The Beginning, the first season of the original anime, is now available on Disney Plus in the US and some international markets. According to Polygon, three later seasons are available through Hulu: Sun & Moon (season 20), Sun & Moon Ultra Adventures (season 21) and Sun & Moon Ultra Legends (season 22).
Ayo Davis, president of Disney Kids & Family, said the two shows are “powerful additions to Disney XD and Disney+.”
