Early access to the campaign for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is now live, according to a post on Xbox Wire published October 16. The post doesn’t say who is eligible or how to get access.
Early impressions arrived at the same time. In a review in progress, PC Gamer describes Infinity Ward’s campaign as lasting about six hours. More than half of it follows a squad of young South Korean marines, along with a few Americans, whose compulsory military service is almost over when North Korea invades without warning. Running alongside that story is a separate thread about Captain Price, now a fugitive after the events of Modern Warfare 3. According to PC Gamer, the game plays a lengthy recap video to catch players up. Mads Mikkelsen also appears in the cast.
PC Gamer singles out a mission called “Stranded” that runs for several hours. In it, the squad crash-lands behind enemy lines in North Korea and gets three non-linear objectives, side quests and a hideout for crafting armor, weapons and camouflage. The mission uses the DMZ looting system, but PC Gamer says it was told the map was built specifically for the campaign. The outlet notes that the game was promoted as the end of the Modern Warfare storyline that began in 2019.
Nintendo Life has also published impressions of the campaign on Switch 2. The outlet points out that this is the first Call of Duty on a Nintendo platform since Call of Duty: Ghosts came to Wii U in 2013. The release follows Microsoft’s agreement to bring the series to a Nintendo console at the same time as other platforms. Nintendo Life’s headline says the Switch 2 “does its best” with the game.
