Bluepoint Games’ Demon’s Souls remake has been a PlayStation 5 exclusive since its 2020 launch. Footage from YouTuber Geralt Benchmarks now shows it running on PC through an unofficial emulator at up to 120 fps, according to PC Gamer.
This is not an official port. PC Gamer reports that the footage uses KytyPS5, an unofficial translation layer, and that the PS5 is still the only official way to play the remake.
The test machine had an Nvidia RTX 5070 and an AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D. With 2x DLSS frame generation turned on, the game ran above 100 fps at 1440p. It came close to a steady 120 fps at 1080p, which the video shows at around the eight-minute mark. In PC Gamer’s description, the PS5 version’s performance mode is locked to 60 fps at 1440p.
Geralt Benchmarks also ran the game on the same PC with settings matched to the PS5. Without frame generation, the frame rate occasionally rose above 70 fps.
The emulated version still has problems. PC Gamer noted visible hitching in the footage, though the outlet didn’t think it ruined the experience. It also pointed out that the PS5 version holds its 60 fps cap very consistently.
PC Gamer linked the growing interest in PS5 emulation to the console’s price, which it said is now significantly higher than at launch. The outlet also mentioned recent developments elsewhere in the emulation scene, including a decision by the PS3 emulator RPCS3 to clamp down on AI-generated submissions.
